WHAT IS ASHITABA?

STAYING YOUNG AND HEALTHY IS NOW A REALITY
LET YOUR BODY HEAL ITSELF NATURALLY WITH ASHITABA

ASHITABA
scientific name : Angelica Keiskei Koidzmi

is an Asian herb belonging to the same genus as Angelica Sinensis aka Japanese/Chinese Angelica. The name Angelica comes from the Latin name for angel and was given to this herb because of its godly effects, namely its extraordinary ability to slow the aging process.

If the leaves were picked today, it would blossom again tomorrow; that’s the regenerative power of Ashitaba. Ashitaba name comes from the Japanese words “tomorrow leaf”. Ashitaba has been used in Japan (Edo Period of 15th Century) and China (Ming Dynasty in early 15th Century) as medicinal herbs due to its power of supplying vital nutrients. Chalcones, organic compounds called flavonoids, found in Ashitaba confer potent antioxidant activity exceeding that of red wine, green tea, or soy.

Ashitaba is a remarkable plant exhibiting the benefits of both land and marine plants. It is a dietary treasure, containing eleven vitamins, thirteen minerals, chlorophyll, enzymes, carotene, germanium, saponins, proteins, plant fibers, glycosides, coumarins, and an unique and rare class of flavonoids called chalcones.

Ashitaba is high in chlorophyll, also called "Green Blood", because it has a similar molecular structure to that of our blood. It helps the internal organs, the stomach, and the brain work better and has exhibited anti-allergy actions. Natural organic germanium, in Ashitaba, is known to promote production of Interferon which is a defensive material produced by our body to prevent viruses and bacterias from penetrating into our cells. Germanium is valuable in the purification of blood by keeping away harmful hydrogen ions in the blood, creating an alkaline PH, increasing oxygen, and by activating blood cell replacements.

Research published in Nutraceuticals World, Sept 2002, astonishingly showed that Ashitaba out-performed all other herbs including green tea that were tested for their antioxidant potential based on the ORAC guide (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity).

Ashitaba plants possess phenolic compounds active as an Anti-OxidantAnti-InflammatoryAnti- Turmorigenic, Anti- CarcinogenicAnti-Microbial, and a Detoxifier. The Biomedical Group of Takara Shuzo found that the powerful compounds contained in Ashitaba can enhance production of Nerve Growth Factor (NGF), which, is an incredible process. NGF is a biological substance which is essential in the development and survival of certain neurons in both the central and peripheral nervous systems.

In one study, using 1% Ashitaba dry powders, a 20% increase of NGF concentration was noted after only four days!

On the Japanese island of Hachijo, residents have Ashitaba as part of their diet, and typically have some of the longest life spans on earth. The plant has been an integral part of the diet on this island for hundreds of years, and is the only known plant to contain a substances called chalcones, discovered when scientists began to analyze the diet and environment in order to determine the reasons for the health and longevity observed.

Ashitaba is historically referred to locally by the residents of the island as the "longevity herb", and is one of natures most dynamic nutritional food sources, and has a vast spectrum of other beneficial properties which augment a number of systems in the body, especially the immune system and the circulatory system.

Ashitaba may help to:

  • Promote blood cleansing & circulation

  • Reduce blood pressure

  • Regulate cholesterol level

  • Regulate blood sugar level

  • Reduce joint & muscular pain

  • Enhance liver & kidney function

  • Support digestive & G.I. health

  • Anti-viral & anti-bacterial actions

  • Suppress cell growth abnormalities

  • Inhibit general inflammation

  • Strengthen the immune system

  • Relieve smooth muscle spasms in the arteries & bronchial tubes

  • Enhance smooth bowel movements

  • Remove toxic wastes from body

  • Improve visual acuity

  • Peri-menopausal relief

  • Smoother skin texture

  • Aid natural sleep cycles

We have this plant on our garden. Took this for granted in the past. Great write-up. Just took a few leaves before sleeping today and will continue taking for the succeeding days. Hope more research through the years to prove its benefits.

There is no doubt about it, every year some new ‘wonder’ drug, herb, diet, etc., etc., etc., hits the headlines claiming this miracle cure of whatever is the current fad.

The most common ‘tell’ to which is bs and which is not usually comes down to cost – if it costs a lot then chances are it’s bs, conversely if it doesn’t cost a lot then there is usually some merit in its use (this is why the big Drug Companies hate these little health secrets).

I’ve only come across two ‘wonder’ natural items (but that is only because I have only two things needing fixing that modern drugs weren’t helping with – I’m sure there are a lot more).

The first was ‘colloidal silver’ – cost in Chemist shops, last time I looked, in Australia was A$25 per 100ml bottle – this would normally qualify it for my bs ‘rule’ but, actually you can make a lifetime supply from just a single purchase of 1 troy ounce of 99.999 pure silver rods, the cost of 3 x 9v batteries and some dark glass containers to store it in. For cold sore sufferers you will never get a cold sore again (as long as you apply it as soon as you feel the distinctive tingle of an outset infection). You can check out the internet for its many other uses and how to make it yourself. Incidentally, its distractors are limited to complaining of its side effects due to ingesting it in too large a quantities (it can turn your skin a dull silver colour which, apparently, is irreversible). I’ve only ever used it for external treatment of aggressive heat rash.

The second is Ashitaba (Tomorrow’s Leaf). I take it for high blood sugar and, as a person with angina, to ensure normal blood pressure. I’m 62, obese (5’6” tall and 200lb – 168cm/90kgs), smoke and live in a very stressful environment (heat & pollution). I take 3 leaves every morning (freshly picked and just rinsed under the kitchen tap to clean away any of Manila’s acid rain). Other than the wash, I just eat them raw like you would a lettuce leaf before my breakfast.

Now, you can buy it as an extract or tea, etc., but I bought my plant at a local market for 50 pesos (about US$1 and 25 cents). I potted it on my balcony and added some plant growth bought from the local hardware shop. It gets the afternoon Sun and (after losing a few plants) I only water it of a night time otherwise the extreme power of the Sun heats up the water which burns the leaves if done during the day. The leaves grow to about 3.5 inches long by 1.5 inches wide (90mm x 40mm) and have a dark green colour.

My blood pressure is a very solid 120 over 80. For me the proof is in the results. Because you can buy the plant so cheaply and the results are measurable you have little to lose trying it. I suggest, measure your blood pressure at a specific time of day in a rested position – eat 3 leaves every morning for, say, the next 2 weeks and then take your blood pressure again at the same time and position as you first did.
